Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams had a problem: his 18 year old relative was caught having sex with a 13 year old girl. Adams did what any politician in power would do: he had the law changed to effectively lower the age of consent to 13. Previously, 17 year olds who had sex with a 13 year old would face a reduced charge of third degree unlawful sexual activity rather than first degree child rape, but Adams saw fit to change the law to extend it to an 18 year old who was still in high school.
While the law didn’t apply retroactively, Adams’s relative still received a lesser sentence and didn’t serve a day beyond the week he had already spent in jail. Who was the defense attorney for Adams’s relative? None other than Roselle Stevenson’s attorney Cara Tangaro, who helped Roselle obtain a dismissal with prejudice for her alleged participation in the sexual assault of Emily Sheets, Stevenson’s former neighbor.
The Utah Rot continues.
Comment from Relentless Hope: What is wrong with Utah politicians? Why do they continually pass new laws that protect pedophiles and sexual deviants? What parent would allow their 13 year old daughter to date an 18 year old man? Does anyone here have common sense? Stop voting in these reprobate politicians.
Do you know that every major bill in Utah, before it is voted on, is reviewed by the Quorum of 12? They decide first if they want to support the bill and then they pass down their wishes to the politicians. The Quorum knew about this case and they chose that your underage daughters could make a decision to have sex with men at age 13. Wow, disgusting.
